Coach Luis Mora's Inspiring Soccer Journey: From Costa Rica to Cedar Stars Rush Houston

Cedar Stars Rush Houston is proud to share the incredible journey of Coach Luis Mora, whose passion and dedication to youth soccer coaching were recently featured in an inspiring interview with Voyage Houston. Coach Mora, a cornerstone of our academy, has a story that resonates with dedication, skill, and the pure love of soccer.

Born in Costa Rica and raised mostly in New Jersey, Coach Mora’s journey to becoming a respected soccer coach began with his own soccer obsession. “To this day, I can still say I have that same passion for the game that I had in my childhood,” says Coach Mora. Though his playing days are mostly behind him, he now channels his energy into coaching and training kids in the beautiful game.

His move to Houston in 2019 marked the beginning of an exciting chapter. Joining Cedar Stars Rush Houston Soccer Academy, Coach Mora quickly identified a need for individualized and small group training. He established Total Football Performance (TFP) in 2020, focusing on connecting with young athletes and teaching them proper techniques for in-game scenarios.

Facing the challenge of starting from scratch in a new city, Coach Mora built TFP into a successful venture, now working with over 150 athletes across the Houston area. “One of the toughest challenges I faced was literally starting everything from scratch,” he recalls. His determination and commitment to excellence have made him a beloved figure in the soccer community.

Coach Mora specializes in teaching speed, agility, coordination, and technical skills, including dribbling, passing, and shooting. His work's impact is evident when his athletes apply training techniques in games and progress to more competitive levels. “The best part of my job is when athletes send or tag me in videos of things we worked on in training being applied and executed in games,” he shares.

His dedication to nurturing talent is seen in the success of his athletes, many of whom have been selected for Regional & National teams, Olympic Development Programs, and top youth soccer leagues like MLS Next and ECNL. His pride in their accomplishments reflects his deep investment in their growth and development.
